Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about DA and CDC leads.
What BuildHound monitors, what the information means and how NSW builders, trades and property services can use it to find relevant opportunities earlier.
What is BuildHound?
BuildHound monitors NSW Development Application and Complying Development Certificate activity. It is designed to help builders, trades, suppliers and property-service businesses find projects relevant to their work and location without repeatedly searching council and planning websites.
What is a DA lead?
A DA lead is an early commercial signal. A Development Application can describe proposed building or property work before construction begins, giving relevant businesses time to assess whether the project fits their services. It is not a quote request and does not mean the applicant has asked to be contacted.
What is a CDC lead?
A CDC lead comes from a Complying Development Certificate. CDCs provide a fast-track approval pathway for eligible development that meets set standards. Because these projects can progress quickly, early awareness can be particularly valuable for relevant trades and suppliers.
Who is BuildHound for?
BuildHound is being built for NSW builders, electricians, plumbers, landscapers, pool builders, fencing contractors, roofers, surveyors, consultants, suppliers and other businesses whose next job may begin with a DA or CDC.
What information will an opportunity include?
Available details may include the application type, project description, address or location, council area, relevant dates, estimated development value, application status and why the project matched your preferences. The fields available vary between applications and source records.
Where does the planning information come from?
BuildHound uses publicly available NSW planning information and organises it into a more useful commercial view. BuildHound is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the NSW Government or any local council.
Does every DA or CDC become a construction project?
No. An application may change, be delayed, be refused or never proceed. BuildHound provides early planning intelligence so you can research and assess an opportunity. It cannot guarantee project commencement, contact with an applicant or paid work.
How should I use a matched opportunity?
Start by checking the scope, timing, location and fit for your business. If it is relevant, prepare a targeted and respectful approach rather than a generic sales pitch. Our practical guide walks through a fencing contractor responding to a new pool application.
Can I visit or contact the project address?
BuildHound provides planning intelligence, not permission to contact an applicant or occupant. You are responsible for how you use the information. Any outreach should be transparent, respectful and compliant with applicable laws, local requirements and displayed “no junk mail” or “do not knock” signs.
How current is the information?
BuildHound is designed to surface newly available matching activity as early as practical. Timing and completeness depend on the information supplied by the relevant planning source, and source records can be corrected or updated after publication.
How do I register?
Use the BuildHound interest form and tell us your trade or service and primary NSW postcode. We will keep you informed about service access, coverage and launch updates.
